In 2020/21 CIY undertook an audit survey of all the existing youth workers who are employed in Christian youth work across the island of Ireland. This audit included youth workers who are employed across both Catholic and Protestant Churches and also youth workers who are employed in Christian youth work organisations/communities/orders across the whole island.
The survey reveals the overwhelming lack of employed youth workers in Ireland, especially in the local church, with Para-Church organisations employing more youth workers than the Church. This survey uncoils the reality of Christian youth work in Ireland and poses deep questions that the Church must seriously address.
